Owner: Proprietors of the Lowell Cemetery
Location: Lowell, Massachusetts
Project Team: Walsh Engineering Associates, Inc. (Site Planning, Columbarium Design, Construction Management); Richardson Associates, Inc. (Landscape Architect) Eickhof Columbaria (niche provider)
Work Scope:
Under WEA’s construction oversight, long-time client Lowell Cemetery’s c. 1885 bell tower became almost unrecognizable as its surface was refreshed and restored. Mortar specialists Mas-Con removed the existing mortar and repointed all joints. Mott Iron Works completed the fabrication and installation of ornamental scrolls and points, then sandblasted and repainted the metal work. In order to complete the masonry work, the historic bell was removed and a break in one of the support brackets was found. After the bell was polished to its near-original finish, it was safely reinstalled to toll again.
