Project Details :
Project Description: St. Lawrence Church
Owner: Friends of St. Lawrence Church
Location: Portland, Maine
Project Team: Walsh Engineering Associates, Inc.
Work Scope:
The St. Lawrence Church was originally constructed in 1897 as a home to a burgeoning population of Congregationalists. In the 1980’s the church was deconsecrated and sold to developers, where it fell into disrepair. Now owned by the Friends of St. Lawrence Church, the former parish hall area of the property serves the community as a live theater auditorium space that offers programming and performing space in the blossoming Munjoy Hill area of Portland. The former sanctuary portion of the building was unsalvageable and dismantled. Now with recent funding established, WEA is working with a team of engineers, architects, volunteers, and City officials to recreate that part of the structure in much of its original form for use as a 402-seat performance theatre.
