I came to WEA because of the company culture and the promise of growth. Since day one, I’ve been consistently challenged and involved with many aspects of the company. We really are a great team at WEA and work very well together. People don’t quit their jobs, they quit their bosses. My bosses are great and although they are tremendously busy, they listen to their employees and are responsive. I come from a military family and have a lot of involvement with a national Veterans program for disabled Veterans. WEA’s involvement with the site design and construction administration for Veterans Cemeteries in multiple states was a huge draw for me. Professionally, I focus on two main goals every day - I like to solve problems and I strive to know our clients. If you call our office and talk to me, I will remember you several months from now. I will remember your project.

Director of Engineering
In 2012, I joined WEA as a Project Engineer to help expand civil and environmental engineering services to clients throughout New England. Prior to joining WEA, I worked as an engineer at a couple of other local firms and was looking to take the next step in my career. I liked that WEA was a Maine-based firm and valued their philosophy of delivering the highest level of professional services, while maintaining a personal connection with clients. I was excited about the growth potential at WEA and I am now the Director of Engineering overseeing the vast majority of projects that come through the office. It’s a fast-paced work environment with a lot of client interaction. While I enjoy being immersed in our high-profile projects, I also find it rewarding to have a direct impact on a project of any size.
Silas Canavan is a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) and Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) practicing civil and environmental engineering design since 2006. His experience includes project management, local, state, and federal project permitting; construction oversight; surveying, utility design; site grading, hydrologic and hydraulic stormwater modeling; stormwater management; erosion and sedimentation control, and environmental engineering. He is also highly skilled with AutoCAD Civil 3D and HydroCAD stormwater modeling software.
At WEA, I have the opportunity to work on a variety of challenging and exciting projects while building my skill set. I had several job opportunities after graduation, but chose to start my career at WEA due to its excellent reputation and company culture that encourages career development. I’m currently studying for my Remote Pilot Certificate with the help of engineers at WEA who have already obtained the certification so that I can incorporate WEA’s drone into the projects I’m involved in. I also have a goal of becoming a Certified Floodplain Manager by the end of the year so that I can provide more insight to clients on our many projects along the coast of Maine. Everyone at WEA is very supportive of furthering engineering skills and working together on projects to find innovative solutions. I’m looking forward to building my career here.
