DIRECTOR OF CIVIL ENGINEERING

The Director of Civil Engineering will be responsible for a variety of tasks such as conceptual planning, zoning review, site design, stormwater management system design, and permitting. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in technical, regulatory and CAD designs as well as project bidding and construction contract administration.  The Director will also be interacting with clients, contractors, and local government officials.  This is an opportunity to impact the entire project from design through construction.  Walsh Engineering offers a highly competitive compensation and benefits package. WEA also offers a flexible hybrid work schedule with option to work from home 1-2 days per week.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Driving and coordinating the effective delivery of civil engineering projects that meet the required outcomes for clients and key stakeholders ensuring timely completion and within budget.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective, professional relationships with relevant stakeholders including clients, government agencies and allied professionals.
  • Providing leadership, direction, mentoring and training to the team.
  • Drive operational efficiencies and quality of each project.
  • Preparing fee proposals and submissions.
  • Contributing to the development, growth, and expansion of Walsh Engineering Associates’ portfolio of clients and projects
  • Delivery high quality projects and service to clients.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with competing demands and priorities.
  • Ability to effectively present projects to local permitting authorities (i.e. planning board and staff review committee meetings).

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with PE
  • 8 years of site/civil engineering experience
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Proficiency with HydroCAD stormwater modeling or other hydrology software
  • Competency with grading, drainage, erosion and sedimentation control, gravity sewers, pump stations and stormwater BMPs
  • Understanding of local and state permitting including experience with the Maine Department of Environmental Protection, stormwater, Site Location of Development, NRPA, as well as local site plan and subdivision permitting is beneficial.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

PROJECT ENGINEER

The Project Engineer position requires a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with EIT preferred and ability to obtain PE license. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated with demonstrated strength in the areas of site development and environmental engineering.  Walsh Engineering offers a highly competitive compensation and benefits package. WEA also offers a flexible hybrid work schedule with option to work from home 1 day per week.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Project Manager and leadership team to develop data, complete technical analysis, and prepare permitting and construction drawings and reports.
  • Performance of design and analysis for a variety of projects.
  • Complete site layout, utility and grading plans, stormwater analyses and reports, and site development permits.
  • Performance of civil and structural engineering analyses and numerical analysis using various computer software programs.
  • Hands-on field observation & inspection of construction activities.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, EIT or PE
  • 4 years of civil engineering experience preferred
  • Competency with AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Knowledge of storm drainage calculations and modeling and hydrology software (HydroCAD preferred).
  • Ability to learn quickly and apply new skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic understanding of construction
